Need help with our newsletter-We have the template, just need a writer or someone with desktop publishing skills, to write summaries based on our past events (2024 and 2025) and add pictures. We will supply the summary, press releases, facebook posts and google drive picture folder, but this person will need to summarize, shorten to fit the template spaces, and choose pictures. Final product can be pdf or word doc. 

Volunteers will make food box deliveries to Senior Citizens in Bremer County

In partnership with Northeast Iowa Food Bank, we have launched a NEW PROGRAM FOR SENIORS! ‍ Seniors in need can sign up to receive a monthly box of food delivered to their home.

Drivers will be assigned Seniors to make deliveries to residents of the rural communities in Bremer County.

The Driver of the Rural Route will receive a $25 gas card. 

Volunteers will meet at the United Way office and make assigned deliveries from there. 

Volunteers will make food box deliveries to the homes of senior citizens.

Install drywall, insulation in walls/gift shop and bathroom/Tyvek. Then maybe mud, tape and paint drywall.

Scrape and repaint the horse hitch post and cleaning

Paint trim white around garage attic exterior window. Need 8ft ladder.

Help "strip" and maybe sand (steel wool or light grade sandpaper) small antique wood stove.

Fence repair- NEED two pickets replaced. Stain provided.

 BOLD=Urgent Need

We are looking for volunteers to help keep our facility grounds looking their best by assisting with mowing and basic outdoor maintenance. This is a great opportunity to support our mission while helping create a welcoming environment for our clients and visitors.

1. Help with yard repair, adding top soil and maybe grass seed to low spots due to construction equipment and trucks and workers from a construction project to replace the south house wall. 

2.Re-lay a brick path with Polymer/Polymeric sand and tamping. 

3. Raking the yard, spreading fertilizer and weed killer (10/10/10) and putting down grass seed and mulching or germination cover (potting soil/compost/straw).

4. Planting flowers that will be provided or heirloom plants.
5. Pulling weeds, cutting out saplings or volunteer trees (mulberry and walnut shrub trees)

OR THESE:

 Inventory and organization of salvaged materials in the garage and garage attic
Small-scale repair and maintenance initiatives; construction projects for storage needs

NEICAC moved to its current location in October 2025. The office provides a variety of programs to help families in need, including the Bremer County Food Pantry, heating assistance program and crisis assistance program. We do not have any regular staff for building maintenance. A great need is to have a team power wash the one-story building and clean out the gutters. It is unknown when either was done. We have an electric hookup and hose connection, but do not have any equipment for this project. The gutters have vegetation growing out of them. This could be completed any time of the day. 

Pulling weeds, trimming bushes, cleaning raised beds

The NEICAC Bremer County Food Pantry serves on average 160-170 households a month. This project would be to host a drive for food items (non-perishable) and non-food items such as paper products, diapers, and personal care items. 

Volunteers provide their own materials. 

This volunteer opportunity is off site. 

Blankets are given to our patients of all ages- babies, toddlers to adult.  

       Blanket sizes:  3' x 3' or 4' x 4'

       Blankets can be made from soft yarn, fleece (single layer), or material.

he dining room cashier utilizes the POS system to calculate a person’s food tray and charges them appropriately.

Morning activities include cashiering and the following:

*Wipe tables and counters

*Price Items and Tag Outdate

*Restock racks of chips etc

AIM's annual fundraiser is in January, however mailers need to be sent out to potential sponsors in September. This task is simple but time consuming. We need help folding papers, labeling envelopes, and putting papers into the envelopes.

We are seeking a volunteer to assemble small shelving at our office.

The Summer Meals program provides grab and go breakfast and lunch items to local kids in need.

Volunteers assist with unloading food, setting up assembling line, distributing breakfast/lunch, helping families to their vehicle, and clean-up.

*No Food Prep is needed! All items come pre-packaged and ready to serve.*

Together, we served 8,896 meals last summer! 

Each day, the Summer Meals program accumulates several boxes to be recycled!

We are seeking a volunteer to pick up the broken down boxes and take them to the recycling center.

We are a one-on-one mentoring program. To change the world one kid at a time, we need mentors! Can you give 30 minutes one day a week during school hours OR 2-4 hours per month on nights/weekends to make a life-changing difference to a child?

August  11 - Set up for supply distribution. 

August 12 - Distribute school supply kits to families. 

Friends of the Family is looking for an individual interested in a weekly volunteer opportunity.

Starbucks in Waverly provides a weekly food donation to Friends of the Family. We give this donation to both our housing and crisis services clients.

Due to the fire that disrupted the use of our Waverly building we are looking for a volunteer willing to pick up the donation from the Waverly Starbucks and driving it to our Waterloo building. At drop off the volunteer will weigh the donation so we are able to report the amount to Starbucks and also work to put the donation away in our fridge and freezers. 

This is a wonderful way to support FOF clients and keeping us connected to the community support of the Waverly community! 

1. The exterior siding needs to be removed and replaced on the back portion of the house. We will provide the sheets of cedar siding. Need volunteers to help remove it and put new back on, with Tyvek or moisture barrier, may need help staining the siding beforehand. Need construction minded people with the know how to guide us and our volunteers,  or someone with this knowledge to help direct us.

Also, small sidewalk repair task a possibility in the backyard. If we can find a good used one; Install a new screen door on the walk in door of the garage is another possibility.  

Our new wall construction will be concluding in the next couple of weeks/late April and we will need help with heavy duty cleaning, now and after. For this post construction clean up: Shop vac available with hepa filter or change filter frequently, air purifiers, dust rags and spray, step ladder, stool, cleaning vents, setting gift shop back up by placing items out on tables and racks, and more. 
After May, we will be having events in July, September, October, November/December.  We need help prior to these events: cleaning, vacuuming floors/walls with shop vac, dusting and cleaning interior windows and help setting up tables, chairs, demonstration areas, and more. All supplies are furnished.

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman coordinates a volunteer ombudsman program, and we are actively seeking volunteers throughout the state of Iowa!  After completing initial certification training, a volunteer ombudsman in our program will make regular visits to an assigned long-term care facility or to multiple facilities in a region to help serve as a voice for residents, talking with them about their rights, empowering them, and providing advocacy.

Our volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of 3 hours per month in their assigned facility(ies), complete monthly reports, work with long-term care ombudsman staff at the local and state levels, and complete annual continuing education to remain certified. 

Visits to facilities are generally unannounced and can be made at any time, any day generally between the hours of 8am-8pm. For a volunteer who may wish to make an impact but not wish/be able to make visits to facilities, there are more administrative volunteer opportunities available on an individualized basis.

What Does a Resource Line Volunteer Do?

Resource line volunteers answer calls from abuse victims, law enforcement, and/or hospital staff for victims of domestic violence. Shifts are from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. Day, evening, and night hours are available on Saturday and Sunday.  

Over the Phone Resource Line Volunteers Can Provide Callers to the Line With:

❏    Emotional support and service referrals

❏    Help victims understand their rights and options

❏    Inform victims of services the Domestic Abuse Resource Center has to offer

Requirements:

 ❏    Volunteers must be 18 years or older

❏    Attend a required online 20-hour training through ICADV (Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence)

❏    Possess an open, non-judgmental attitude towards survivors of domestic violence and their situation

❏    Complete a volunteer application, confidentiality form, position description, and volunteer agreement

❏    Complete a background check before volunteering begins

❏    Attend volunteer meetings with other volunteers, and the volunteer coordinator to touch base, when they are offered. __________________________________________________________________________________________________
