We will be having events this September, October, November/December and in 2026 first weekend in May and July-Heritage Days. We need help prior to, cleaning, vacuuming floors/walls with shop vac, dusting and cleaning interior windows before events and help setting up tables, chairs, demonstration areas, and more. All supplies are furnished. Events are Sept. 18, Oct. 15/16th and November. 

Powerwash the small deck platform and apply water seal. 

Make tie blankets for organizations in our community.

Gather at the Waverly Area Veterans Post or at your own location!

1. The exterior siding needs to be removed and replaced on the back portion of the house. Need volunteers to help remove it and put new back on. Need construction manager or someone with this knowledge to help us first buy and cut new siding ready for this task. Small sidewalk repair task a possibility in the backyard. Install a new screen door on the walk in door of the garage is another possibility. 

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman coordinates a volunteer ombudsman program, and we are actively seeking volunteers throughout the state of Iowa!  After completing initial certification training, a volunteer ombudsman in our program will make regular visits to an assigned long-term care facility to help serve as a voice for residents, talking with them about their rights, empowering them, and providing advocacy.

Our volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of 3 hours per month in their assigned facility, complete monthly reports, work with long-term care ombudsman staff at the local and state levels, and complete annual continuing education to remain certified. 

Visits to facilities are generally unannounced and can be made at any time, any day generally between the hours of 8am-8pm. For a volunteer who may wish to make an impact but not wish/be able to make visits to facilities, there are more administrative volunteer opportunities available on an individualized basis.

Need help with Fundraising plans- grant research and help writing grants identified for this project, help in marketing the Save the Wall Campaign. Meet with our 3 fundraising board members to help in creating and carrying out the plan.

Installing plastic window insulation and window shades in 4 attic windows. Can bring gloves. 2 people needed.

The museum needs touch-up painting on a few first floor windows and front railing. Two people will be needed. Supplies will be furnished

1 in 6 children in Northeast Iowa experience hunger. Help the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in their mission of ensuring everyone has food every day by assembling BackPacks for the BackPack Program. These kid-friendly, nonperishable foods will be delivered to children who rely on these meals during weekends and school holidays. Events like the WSR Day of Caring is vital in sustaining efforts and providing support to children and families facing food insecurity.

AIM's annual fundraiser is in January, however mailers need to be sent out to potential sponsors in September. This task is simple but time consuming. We need help folding papers, labeling envelopes, and putting papers into the envelopes.

Become an advocate for sexual assault survivors today! Flexible hours for on-call shifts and respond in-person to area hospitals and law enforcement centers, provide support and resources to survivors of sexual assault. Available shifts are 5pm until 8am the next morning Monday-Friday, on Saturdays and Sundays shifts are from 8am until 8am the following day, and occasionally, 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.

Volunteers will help hang and sort donations and put out winter clothes. (Clothing closet located rural Sumner/Readlyn area)

Provide individualized housing advocacy services to victims of crime in need of safe housing within the shelter setting.  Work to assess service needs, connect clients with resources, empower clients, and provide assistance with applications and housing paperwork.

1.     The dining room cashier tallies up a person’s food tray and charges them appropriately.

2.  An adding machine is available if you wish to use it. You will be supplied with a price sheet.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1.     Experience and Education:

o    Strong customer service skills. Friendly personality.

o    Comfortable with fast-paced environments.  

2.     Physical Demands:

o    Most of the shift is spent sitting.

o    Must be current on all immunizations and free of communicable disease.

3.     Mental Demands:

o    Ability to add prices or use an adding machine.

o    Ability to make correct change.

1.     Maintain patient confidentiality.

2.     Provide comfort measures to patients and family members (pillows, blankets, etc.)

3.     Relay messages from staff to family members.

4.     Restock supplies

5.     Run errands to other departments within WHC.

6.     Clerical tasks when requested.

Volunteers are required to make a minimum of a semester commitment.

What Does a Resource Line Volunteer Do?

Resource line volunteers answer calls from abuse victims, law enforcement, and/or hospital staff for victims of domestic violence. Shifts are from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. Day, evening, and night hours are available on Saturday and Sunday.  

Over the Phone Resource Line Volunteers Can Provide Callers to the Line With:

❏    Emotional support and service referrals

❏    Help victims understand their rights and options

❏    Inform victims of services the Domestic Abuse Resource Center has to offer

Requirements:

 ❏    Volunteers must be 18 years or older

❏    Attend a required online 20-hour training through ICADV (Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence)

❏    Possess an open, non-judgmental attitude towards survivors of domestic violence and their situation

❏    Complete a volunteer application, confidentiality form, position description, and volunteer agreement

❏    Complete a background check before volunteering begins

❏    Attend volunteer meetings with other volunteers, and the volunteer coordinator to touch base, when they are offered. __________________________________________________________________________________________________

We are a one-on-one mentoring program. To change the world one kid at a time, we need mentors! Can you give 30 minutes one day a week during school hours OR 2-4 hours per month on nights/weekends to make a life-changing difference to a child?

Volunteers for this position will provide transportation during a scheduled timeframe to clients in or preparing to access Friends of the Family's emergency shelter program.
