Help Light Up the Bremer Ave Bridge Help us bring some holiday cheer to our community!

Volunteers will help prepare the holiday garland for the new Bremer Ave Bridge by fluffing the garland and installing light bulbs into the light strands. Once everything is ready, we’ll string the lights throughout the garland. This is a great opportunity to lend a hand, meet others in the community, and help make the holidays a little brighter for everyone who travels across the new Bremer Ave Bridge.

A great need is to have a team power wash the one-story building and clean out the gutters. It is unknown when either was done. We have an electric hookup and hose connection, but do not have any equipment for this project. The gutters have vegetation growing out of them. This could be completed any time of the day. 

Prune and clean up garden for fall. Will provide pruning tools and garbage bags.

Help make poured candles and laundry soap and put into containers to sell in gift shop OR help make lotion bars.

Riptide Community Closet will be moving from 2211 4th St SW to Trinity United Methodist Church, and I need help!  Duties include putting equipment in totes and boxes, taking apart storage racks, loading it all in to trucks and trailers. And taking it to the Church.  We will then work on setting everything up in the new location. 

Help apply a durable, protective stain to the walking surface and railings of the 500 ft Rail Trail Bridge between Nestle and Cedar Lane in Waverly.

Need help designing and building shelving/storage for program totes of various sizes and heights in the upstairs bedroom/attic or garage.

Help (may also have to pick) then juice apples for cider (to freeze) for fall events using juicer and cutting apples in quarters, straining and filling milk jugs to freeze.

This will be done in conjunction with our Board members.

Install drywall, insulation in walls/gift shop and bathroom/Tyvek. Then maybe mud, tape and paint drywall.

Scrape and repaint the horse hitch post and cleaning

Paint trim white around garage attic exterior window. Need 8ft ladder.

Help "strip" and maybe sand (steel wool or light grade sandpaper) small antique wood stove.

Fence repair- NEED two pickets replaced. Stain provided.

Lifting, Carrying, Organizing

May involve getting into the garage attic on a step ladder Inventory and organization of salvaged materials in the garage and garage attic (woodwork, trim, boards) Help move program totes into the garage or upstairs from inside the back room. Lifting and maybe going up stairs.

1 in 6 children in Northeast Iowa experience hunger. Help the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in their mission of ensuring everyone has food every day by assembling BackPacks for the BackPack Program. These kid-friendly, nonperishable foods will be delivered to children who rely on these meals during weekends and school holidays. Events like the WSR Day of Caring is vital in sustaining efforts and providing support to children and families facing food insecurity.
